Why The Name 'Creatures of XIX'?

Posted on June 19 2017

Let's start with how do we pronounce this! It's Creatures of 'ex, eye, ex'.

creatures of xix

There are three reasons why XIX...

1) 19.

XIX are the Roman Numerals for 19. Not only do these roman numerals look good aesthetically, but 19 is the age designer Harriet Wolf was when she started creating Gecko Grip Leggings - which was the first unique and iconic garment launched by Creatures of XIX. You can read the Gecko Grip Story here.

2) Strength.

Creatures of XIX is for the movement artists of the world. The brands roots were born from Pole Dancing, for which we celebrate both the strength building and fitness element, as well as the artistic, sensual dance side. The 'I' is symbolic for the Pole apparatus itself. The X's are symbolic for Iron X's (a pole dance trick notorious for the great amount of strength it requires). The reason for two X’s (XIX is aesthetically symbolic of two people doing this strength move on the pole, representing the strength of sisterhood and friendships made through dance and in the community.

3) Provocation.

The X's have been made to look like nipple pasties, a respectful nod to the origins of Pole Dance. Dancers would wear pasties to technically not be topless, pushing the boundaries and celebrating sex appeal.

But why Creatures?

We want to celebrate everyone’s inner animal, their wild side! This is why we don’t have ‘brand ambassadors’ but we do have our Creatures team.

What Creature of XIX are you? Are you a fierce feline, mysterious and slinky like a snake, or a fun and reckless flying squirrel!? Perhaps something mythical and magical?
Comment below what Creature you would be and why - we'd love to hear!

I am definitely a monkey, I love to hang from any pole, branch, whatever I see :D

I love the idea for the company’s name and also how many ingredients it contains! I see myself in two different ways – a tiger as it’s fast, sexy, distinguished but also caring, and… a sneak – as it symbolises wisdom, it’s mysterious and cause I also move like it while dancing on the pole (especially during floor work). And maybe it’s also cause of my dual character – I’m the zodiac Gemini, ha, ha. :)

Haha! Definitely the flying squirrel! ?
