Why The Name 'Creatures of XIX'?

Posted on June 19 2017

Let's start with how do we pronounce this! It's Creatures of 'ex, eye, ex'.

creatures of xix

There are three reasons why XIX...

1) 19.

XIX are Roman Numerals for 19, which is how old our Co-Founder was when she started creating Gecko Grip. You can read the Gecko Grip Story here.

2) Strength.

The 'I' is symbolic for the Pole, the Creatures of XIX brand has always serviced the pole dance community, unapologetically. We know where we come from, and we are proud. The X's are symbolic for Iron X's (an Iron X is a Pole Trick notorious for the great amount of strength it requires). So together the XIX is representative of two pole friends Iron X'ing on a Pole, to represent sisterhood and strength.

3) Provocation.

The X's have been made to look like XX Pasties, a subtle respectful nod to sex workers and the origins of Pole Dance. The dancers would wear pasties to technically not be topless, they cheekily pushed the boundaries, celebrating sex appeal. Interestingly, the X's first originated to cover nipples in magazines.

But why Creatures?

Everyone has their animalistic side, their wild side, and we wanted to reflect this. It's a bit of fun, we don't take ourselves too seriously. It's a cool way to have fun with our brand, we don't have 'brand ambassadors', we have creatures!

What Creature of XIX are you? Are you a fierce feline, mysterious and slinky like a snake, or a fun and reckless flying squirrel!? Perhaps something mythical and magical? Comment below what Creature you would be and why - we'd love to hear!

I am definitely a monkey, I love to hang from any pole, branch, whatever I see :D

I love the idea for the company’s name and also how many ingredients it contains! I see myself in two different ways – a tiger as it’s fast, sexy, distinguished but also caring, and… a sneak – as it symbolises wisdom, it’s mysterious and cause I also move like it while dancing on the pole (especially during floor work). And maybe it’s also cause of my dual character – I’m the zodiac Gemini, ha, ha. :)

Haha! Definitely the flying squirrel! ?
